He likes to incorporate Taiwanese poets to write art songs. This thesis will be discussing Tyzen Hsiao’s musical world through his four Taiwanese art songs, “Eternal Homeland,” “Mother’s Hair,” “Don’t Annoy Taiwan,” and “The Fairest Flower.” My research contains five chapters. The first chapter introduces the motivation of this research. Chapter two introduces Tyzen Hsiao’s life and his art song compositional style. Chapter three contains the life of lyricist for Tyzen Hsiao’s text of his art songs. Chapter four will discuss the analysis and interpretation of four art songs, “Eternal Homeland,” “Mother’s Hair,” “Don’t Annoy Taiwan,” and “The Fairest Flower.” The final chapter, chapter five, concludes this study.
