Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 特殊教育學系碩士班 === 103 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the current condition of parent involvement of children with special needs in kindergarten of New Taipei City. In addition, this study aimed to compare parent involvement based on different demographic variables. Participants of this study were parents of children with special needs who had been admitted to kindergarten in New Taipei City in the 2014 school year. They responded to a research-developed questionnaire “Questionnaire of Parent Involvement of kindergarten children with special needs’ in the survey study. Findings from the study showed that: 1.In general, parents reported their levels of involvement between “usually” and “sometimes”. Among all three demensions (i.e., Home, School, and Community), Home was rated the highest and Community the lowiest. 2.Parent involvement of young children with special needs did not differ significantly among gender and age of child. 3.Categories and severity of children’s disability were significant factors in parent involvement. As compared to parents of children with developmental delay, parents of children with other disabilities reported significantly higher levels of involvement. Parents of children with more severe disability also reported higher levels of involvement than parents of children with no specific certification. 4.Educational placement was a signifiact factor in parent involvement. Parents of children in self-contianed classroom reported higher levels of involvement as compared with those of children in regular class. 5.Gender of parent was a significant factor. Mothers reported higher levels of involvement as compared to fathers. 6.Parental educational level was a significant factor in parent involvement. Parents with a secondary and post-secondary degree (i.e., high school, tech school, and college) reported higher levels of involvement as compared to those whose highiest educational levels were middle school or elementary schools. 7.Socioeconomic level was a significant factor in parent involvement. Level IV parents were found to have significant higher levels of involvement than levels I and II parents. Finally, based on the results from this study, the author provided suggestions for future research and practice.
