Longitudinal Research of Maternal Parenting Efficiency and Children’s Emotional and Behavioral Problems among Urban and Rural Mothers

碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 幼兒教育學系碩士班 === 103 === This study is to investigate the status and correlation of maternal parenting efficiency and children’s emotional and behavioral problems among urban and rural mothers in the time span of year 2013 and 2014. Furthermore differentiation of these capabilities caused by different background parameters is studied. The study is based on the surveys conducted through questionnaires including "Mother Parenting Efficacy Questionnaire", "Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire". Totally 202 valid questionnaires were received after a survey to mothers with young children, who live in Taipei City and Taitung County. The results and findings are summarized as follows: (A) According to data of two consequent years, currently children perform adequately on emotional and behavioral problems and mothers perform high maternal parenting efficiency. (B) Significant negative correlation was found between maternal parenting efficiency and children’s emotional and behavioral problems in this two-year study. (C) Although there is no significant difference found between urban and rural areas on the aspect of maternal parenting efficiency according to the data of two consequent years, we observed significant difference between urban and rural areas on the "peer relationship" of children’s emotional and behavioral problems according to the data of two consequent years (D) Whereas we saw significant improvement on maternal parenting efficiency found through the data comparison of two consequent years, we did not find significant difference on children’s emotional and behavioral problems (E) .No significant interaction between living location "urban-rural" and "time". The primary effect analysis shows that the living location "urban-rural" does not cause difference on maternal parenting efficiency, whereas the maternal parenting efficiency is improved through time (Better result showed in the second year.). On the contrary, residence in urban or rural areas results in significant difference on children’s emotional and behavioral problems (better result in rural than in urban area), whereas difference in time causes no significant difference on children’s emotional and behavioral problems. (F) Significant difference on maternal parenting efficiency in both years is caused by the difference of mother’s age, father’s income. Similarly significant difference on children’s emotional and behavioral problems in both years is caused by the difference of mother's age, mother's educational status, father’s income, family type and child gender. (G) Maternal parenting efficiency can predict children’s emotional and behavioral problems effectively.
