Born in 1929 during the Japanese occupation, Lü played a crucial role in the development and spread of the classical guitar in Taiwan. Within the guitar community of Northern Taiwan, Lü is known as “The Father of the Taiwanese Guitar” (台灣吉他之父) because of his pioneering contributions as a performer, educator, and composer. The first chapter describes my research motivation, methodology, and notes on translation. The second chapter presents the background of the target music including the introduction of the so-called “classical tradition” in Taiwan. Furthermore, it explains the spread of classical guitar in Taiwan and important figures early on. The third chapter introduces the works of Lü Zhao-Xuan and analyzes five selected works. Chapter four describes performance practice concepts for Lü’s works, and then applies these concepts along with suggestions for interpretation to the selected works. The last chapter provides a conclusion as well as suggestions for future study. Fang, Ming-Jian 方銘健 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 60 en_US
