The Characterizations and Personal Relationships in Taiwanese Gay Films: A Comparative Study of Youth and Post-youth Sub-genres

碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 廣播電視學系碩士班應用媒體藝術組 === 103 === This thesis is an attempt to compare the difference of the characterizations in “youth gay films” and “post-youth gay films”. The thesis focuses on two directions. One is the image of the characters, the other is the personal relationship of characters. By analyzing the style of the gay characters such as the appearance, movement or signature, it can explore the change of the characters whether or not with gay culture and society. This thesis uses the movie text analysis and narrative analysis as the research methodology. The researcher investigates into four of Taiwanese gay films which representatives “youth” and “post-youth” sub-genres. Furthermore, how the movies use the image esthetics and signs to express the characterization and the personal relationship. The following are Taiwanese gay movies which selected from 2000-2013: Formula 17, 2004, Eternal Summer, 2006, Gf * Bf, 2012, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, 2013. The researcher divides the movies with two control groups because of the difference and similarity. According to the result of the thesis, the main narrator of the story is usually “DiDi” , but it did not the same as the sex role; second, the gay men in the other leading Man character is not the typical “GeGe” image; third, through the progress of the materials, there are new types of gay characterization such as nurturing masculinity; forth, in the movie, sissy men have different masculinities and they express positive values; fifth, it sues equal value and thought to show the gay image in “Gf * Bf”. Furthermore, the thesis shows that the collapse of patriarchy and the neglect of matriarchy in gay movie. 2. Gay men relationship includes sissy gay men or women. 3. Week of peer relationship. 4. Sub-culture space such as gay bar or fitness center have the importance of the gay love or sexual passion.
