The Research is-sues of head up display may include information selection, information display design, display location, overall layout, and information colors and contrast. Nowadays there are many automobile manufacturers developing head up display, but there is no con-sensus on the information display design for each function so far. We collect nine well-known automobile brands and select five common function information, in addi-tion, manipulate the variety of design type and color. By applying preference ranking test and interview, we intend to know the preferred design and color of each function. On the other hand, we’re also interested in the information selection on head up dis-play based on the opinions of Taiwanese drivers. Result points out that the participants prefer graphics information to text information. For graphic design, it should be simple, clear, and be able to display the information effectively and efficiently. For the colors, participants ranked according to the color meaning, obviousness, and visual comfort. In general, participants consider the included information should related to either real time traffic or car status. The function of Adaptive Cruise control, Lane Departure Warning and cruise control seems not practically used for Taiwanese driver. However, they agree that it can also include side detection warning, speed camera detection, and tire pressure detection. In future study, we suggest to consider the overall layout and provide concrete scenarios to each trial question.
