Narrowband power line communications (NB-PLC), an enabler for quality-assured signaling delivery among entities within Smart Grid, is studied in this thesis. In particular, the implementation of a popularly adopted NB-PLC standard, namely G3-PLC, is the primary focus of this study. Two Texas Instruments’ Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) are used for signal generation and recovery; with TI 6416 development kits serving as a modem, an adaption to the G3-PLC standard prompts this study to properly select the sampling rate accordingly; and implementing a multi-rate processing framework for signal transmission and acquisition efficiently meets the limitations imposed by the DSP. Furthermore, a previously developed algorithm to effectively overcome the performance degradation caused by strong impulse noise in NB-PLC is implemented to demonstrate its feasibility in the real world. Besides, to facilitate signal delivery on power lines, two self-designed couplers are built and subsequently tested in compliance with the operating frequency range specified in the G3-PLC.
