The use of wind power is the main target of green energy which continues in the development in recent years. According to the statistics of Global Wind Energy Conference, it shown that the installed capacity growth rate of global wind turbines is still more than 15 percent in recent years. Because Taiwan is an island surrounded by the sea, wind resources are abundant. The investment in the construction of the wind farms are also subsequently flourished with advances in wind power technology. After the wind farms connected to the transmission system, impact of the system requires extra attention. The main purpose of this thesis is to explore the transient characteristics of wind turbines and the affection of the power system and wind turbines itself after large wind farms connected to these grids. The power system stability is simulated with the grids connected to wind farms. The power analysis and simulation software, PSS/E, is use to analyzed the actual off-peak hour data of Taipower Company in February 2015. The impact of wind turbines were verified with the different capacities of devices, different voltage levels and different distances of fault points. The comparison between traditional units and wind turbines during the fault period was analyzed. The results show that the impact caused by the fault to the wind farm is greater if the fault is closer to the wind farm. Besides, the fault with different wind capacity and different voltage level would affect the operating characteristics of wind turbines. In accordance with the results of this study and "the grid-connected technical keys of renewable energy generation system", we provide the suggestions of wind farms which connected to grids, installed capacity of wind farms, the selection of the proposed site and the installation of wind turbines.
