In the past, the traditional sky painting is attached to landscape painting subject as a supporting role. However, with the booming of “Back to Nature” climate in 18th century, painters directly changed their innovative thoughts. With the trend of natural creation subjects, sky painting became an important expression content in the nature. Therefore, the paper makes a deep discussion by taking the sky painting expression techniques of landscape painters as the topic and British romantic landscape painters Turner (1775~1851) and Constable (1776~1837) as the research subjects. First, I date back history evolution and features of landscape painting and explores how sky painting is changed and developed according to times background, trend of thoughts, environment and other requirement elements. It spans from artistic expression before Christ and western landscape painting in late 19th century. With times difference, the author summarizes different features of landscape paintings and sky painting change conditions. Then, I gradually analyze the artistic birth, climate, spirit, features and natural environment praise under the background of romanticism so as to interpret the degree and proposition of landscape painting emphasized by romanticism. Finally, I cite famous British romantic landscape painters Turner and Constable as research subjects, makes a deep study on the sky painting technique features in their landscape painting and compares and analyzes the painting styles and directions employed in their sky painting ideas and techniques so as to find similarities and differences to provide clear content and knowledge for readers. Based on the above research direction, it is expected that this paper can indicate sky painting is not limited to the emphasis on exquisite expression techniques since romanticism times by taking the representative painters of sky painting expression Turner and Constable unique self-expression features but emphasize a kind outstanding personality to highlight individuals and express strong individual emotional subjective expression. They not only created modern light and color theories about the landscape panting, but also open subjective creation modes for modern painters to make self breakthrough, explore more diversified trend of artistic development and bring great change for modern painting.
