He has a huge impact on the music history and his influence was widespread. He is well known mainly for composing more than 500 instrumental concertos, especially the concertos for the violin. This sonata for oboe and basso continuo in C minor, RV 53 was composed in 1716. This piece was the only sonata that Vivaldi composed purely as a solo work for the oboe among Vivaldi’s works, which also reveals its indispensability in the history. I analyze how Vivaldi used the ornaments, which is one of the representatives of Baroque music period, based on this piece. I also try to add the ornaments on the third movement (Andante) to show my own interpretations of Baroque period music through my understanding of the composer, background of Baroque music, and the ornaments. My research can be divided into six chapters. After highlighting my research goal and the range of my research in Chapter 1, I talk about the sonatas with elaborate ornamentation in Baroque period in Chapter 2, and Antonio Vivaldi with his works for oboe in Chapter 3. I then examine all the movements from the sonata for oboe and continuo in C minor, RV 53 in Chapter 4, and demonstrate the interpretations of each movement in detail in Chapter 5 according to Chapter 2 to 4. I show how I add the ornaments in Andante in contrast with the original in the second part of Chapter 5. The net result (Conclusion) is in the last chapter.
