On an average, one person dies from smoking every six seconds. The life expectancy of tobacco products’ users is shortened by approximately 15 years. We investigated whether the community pharmacy model can facilitate successful smoking cessation and the factors affecting smoking recidivism in people. Methodology: Data from the questionnaire database of the 2011 Taichung City Community Pharmacy Smoking Cessation Counseling Service Station Program was analyzed. Participants included Taichung City adults over the age of 18. The data were collected from counseled people’s pharmacist visits. Results: The Ministry of Health and Welfare has launched the Second-Generation Smoking Cessation Services Program to help smokers quit smoking. When this program was domestically promoted, smoking cessation education and drugs were equally important. Smoking cessation education can strengthen motivation to quit smoking and create awareness about its ill-effects, while also attempting to prevent the occurrence of withdrawal symptoms. Conclusions: The intervention measures (smoking cessation education and nicotine patches) are effective for those willing to quit smoking. Average cigarette consumption will further decrease with an increase in intervention time. Volunteers promoting smoking cessation can encourage smokers attempting to quit and provide guidance for nicotine patch therapy to maximize the cessation rates. Thus, one fewer smoker is another person’s health. CHU, CHIAO-LI 朱僑麗 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 98 zh-TW
