Slopes’ landforms changed if apriori conditions changed. In the last 60 years or so, this study has gathered remote-sensing images from the surfaces and from the extended sections of Cih-en River’s basin, Kbayan River’s basin, and Wahei-er River’s basin along the Central Cross-Island Highway. The changes of landforms were examined using multi-sequential images, the most recent highway maintenance records were compared with one another, in-site examination and geological survey were made, and the damages to highway caused by the activities of the slopes were studied at the same time. Moreover, this study examined the hyperactive slopes using statistical methods and thus identified several typical slopes from the examination results. The geomorphologic features before and after instability occurred were examined. The instability process and the influential factors were analyzed, too. After that, the critical topics related to highway maintenance became apparent. The topics are extremely important for the maintenance of highway throughout its service life. In addition, this study gathered and analyzed the data related to the most recent disasters in an attempt to identify the characteristics of spatial distributions of disasters occurring to the slopes distributed along the highway as well as the influences on the highway traffic and on the highway maintenance. After that, this study established a standard operation procedure for highway slope maintenance procedure. The procedure is presented to the highway maintenance authority for its reference. According to the research results, the landforms nearby strata boundary and structural axis were apt to fluctuate, retrogressively eroded gullies were commonplace in the cliffy landforms, slope stability was influenced by river-scouring, and gullies in the gentle-rolling surface often transformed into debris flow disaster. As for highway maintenance, open-cut tunnels upgraded the stability of upslope but were unable to protect the roadbed. Apparently, the highway maintenance authority has to constantly check if roadbed materials are washed away. 翁祖炘 王泰典 學位論文 ; thesis zh-TW
