Their owners play a key role in creating higher business value. If they can improve their managing performance, their enterprise value can be lifted and the potential for sustainable development of their businesses can be guaranteed. In this study, questionnaires are adopted to collect data for investigating the emotional intelligence and the relationship between social capacity, social capital and business performance among small business owners. This study also tries to explain how emotional intelligence and social competence are important for business performance, and it further explores whether small business owners’ emotional intelligence and social ability could be mediated through social capital to have an impact on managing performance. The findings are that emotional intelligence and social competence have significant positive impact on business performance and that social capital has a significant positive impact on business performance. Mediator effect of the results shows that emotional intelligence and social competence can interact through social capital, and can mediate the relationship between quality and customer network, thus creating significant positive impact on business performance. This study proposes management recommendations in terms of practice and policy and it serves as a reference for small business owners who would like to improve their business performance.
