Taiwan’s historical and cultural background diversifies its cuisines, and the bando food culture derived from this folk heritage. Specifically, Taiwan’s Zodiac bando feast combines zodiac and life rituals, accompanying us through life's important moments. But because not anyone can prepare this time consuming and costs intensive feast, only a few people have a glimpse of its whole picture and recognize the high value of this traditional food culture. In order to understand the implications of this proprieties and food culture, this study used documentary analysis, collecting relevant literature to understand the significance and original meaning of the feast, and interviewing the disciple of master chef Shi-cheng Lin, who prepared the Zodiac bando feast for Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau in 2011, to gather new information and in depth understanding of the feast. The arrangement and content of the work is divided into three parts: (1)timing of the feast, (2)taboos and etiquette, and (3) classic dishes, presenting the special rituals of the food culture. Transforming the texts into visual pictures, the content of the work is based on the twelve zodiac feast, creating a picture book that includes the Mouse “Emperor’s Feast,” the Cattle “Fast and Offering Feast,”the Tiger “Pudu Rite Feast,”the Rabbit “New Residency Feast,”the Dragon “Wedding Feast,”etc. In the completion of the picture book, the study hopes to provide schools with materials that promote local education, to popularize the unique bando culture and to coordinate with the Tourism Bureau in publishing e-books in foreign languages and establishing a website, so as to let readers from around the world recognize the special food heritage of Taiwan, enhancing cultural exchange and inheritance.
