We issued questionnaires to psychiatric nursing staffs who had served for three months (or more) in teaching hospital in the Taoyuan area.Among this issued 168 questionnaires, 162 ones are valid, with recovery rate 96.4%. We found that total score of professional commitment is at the average of 3.68 while patient safety attitude scale scores is at the average of 3.69 from the data analysis. The correlation between professional commitment dimension and patient safety attitudes dimension is 0.671 (p <0.001). It shows that there is a significant high-positive correlation between professional commitment and patient safety attitudes. Among the demographic variables of age, family support, work seniority in psychiatry, there is a significant high-positive correlation between professional commitment and patient safety attitudes. The job title of public official nurse, has higher professional commitment scale score, and the job title of public official head nurse has higher patient safety attitudes scale score. The possession of certification and the higher professional grade level will increase the scale score of their professional commitment in the questionnaires, The higher nurse staffs the educational level of,the higher scale score patient safety attitudes will present in the questionnaires. As for the impact of demographic variables on the professional commitment, the higher level of family support and advanced professional degree, the higher extent psychiatric nursing identify with professional commitment. The family support and advanced professional degree can mutually predict professional commitment at the amount of 25.3% of the explanation. For the impact of demographic variables on patient safety attitudes, the higher the degree of family support and the longer work seniority in ward, the more positive patient safety attitudes will be. Family support and work seniority in ward can mutually predict patient safety attitudes at the amount of 14.8% of the explanation. In multiple regression analysis to explore the professional commitment scale (independent variable) on patient safety attitudes scale (dependent variable), it shows that the professional commitment and patient safety attitudes have a significant impact each other and they are able to predict professional commitment and patient safety attitudes at the amount of 45% of the explanation. Family support and work seniority in ward have a significant impact on the model of the entirety regression for professional commitment scale score (F=44.851, p<0.001). R² is 0.46, which is able to predict patient safety attitudes at the amount of 46% of the explanation. Family support, advanced professional degree and patient safety attitudes have a significant impact on the model of the entirety regression for professional commitment scale score (F=58.564, p<0.001), R²is 0.527, which is able to predict patient safety attitudes at the amount of 52.7% of the explanation. In view of aforesaid statements, professional commitment and patient safety attitudes are positively influence with each other. The research can provide reference for clinical nursing managers inclining to build patient safety atmosphere and to improve the professional commitment of nursing staffs.
