Method: This study is a descriptive research focused on 428 staffs of mental hospital in Taoyuan county. They were asked to fill in "basic information questionnaire", "health-promoting lifestyle profile", "work stress scale" and "personality inventory table". The surveys were collated and coded and then analyzed by Chinese version of SPSS statistical software to understand the relationship among health-promoting lifestyle, work-related stress, personality and metabolic syndrome in the staffs of mental hospital in Taoyuan county. Result: 1. They were 71 people (16.6%) in the mental hospital suffered from metabolic syndrome, including 26 males (6% ) and 45 females (10.6%). 2. A personality traits and stress of mental hospital staff type do not affect the metabolic syndrome. 3. The health- promoting lifestyle may affect the metabolism syndrome. 4. A personality, job stress and health- promoting lifestyle metabolic syndrome do not affect lifestyle. Logistic regression results show only health-promoting lifestyle may affect the metabolism syndrome. 5. There exists significant difference between type A Personality Scale and pressure gauge (p <.001) by Linear Regression, said A-type personality will affect the work pressure. Conclusion: 1. Hospitals should establish good health management system, and actively plan for sports and leisure activities. 2. Encourage the employees to attend activity during weekdays, cultivate the habit of regular exercise and select appropriate sport, in order to improve their health-promoting lifestyle. Encourage employees to participate in community activities to enrith their healthy behaviors and balanced diet. 3. Stress coping strategies: appropriate pre-vocational education, including pressure coping strategies and time management. Learn how to face and adapt the pressure, including strengthening problem-solving skills, shifting the attention, and increasing self-affirmation techniques. Organize regular counseling and consultation. Consider arranging scheduled counseling services for all departments, concern them regularly and give positive emotional support. 4. Under the respect and protection of employees privacy, we have to establish a effective monitoring system in order to reduce the incidence of metabolic syndrome.
