Summary: | 碩士 === 元智大學 === 社會暨政策科學學系 === 103 === With the political, business, work, etc., to promote Taiwan towards internationalization, globalization, liberalization, economic development and the rapid growth of cross-border marriages and thus, the new residents have increased. The foreign brides come primarily from the third world, such as China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. A great number of foreign brides married to the Taiwanese families with a low socioeconomic status. The local media warns that with a limited Mandarin ability, foreign brides cannot help their children academically, and their children might do worse than native children at schools.
The intention of the research is to examine whether the nationality of mothers and the socioeconomic status of a family would be associated with the mandarin capability, learning achievement and self-identity of children. This research method is qualitative research based on hermeneutic phenomenological methodology, through the purposive sampling and semi-structured in-depth interviews to analyze the descriptive information and check with cross examination.
Conclusions reached following and analyses are as followings:1. The mandarin capability of Immigrant Resident Children is almost as same as native children. 2. Immigrant Resident Children’s Learning Achievement is lower. 3. Self-identity on first-graders to forth-graders of new Immigrants’ in an Elementary School is better. 4.The learning achievement is influenced by mandarin capability. 5. Self-identity is influenced by mandarin capability.
At last, it summarized the research conclusion proposed suggestions that will serve as reference for the education authorities, schools, teachers and immigrant resident parents.
