In many variousregions, folk artists entertain and perform for traditional religionsin order to promote local arts and urge the inheritance of our history, an invisible cultural property of our nation. Most important of all, Taiwanese folk master artists’ beliefs in teachinglocal art played an important role in cultural inheritance. The study aims to probe the teaching beliefs of folk artists when they performintergenerational teaching of vernacular art, which included:(1)the motivations of folk artists, (2) to understand their purpose and value when folk artists devoted to continue vernacular art, (3)explore the teaching belief of folk artists in passing onthelocal art The study utilized a qualitative research, mainly based on the methodology of semi-structured interviewing. The interview outline is mapped out first, and six subjects are interviewed according to our research goal. After analyzing the interviews, the researchers conclude the findings and makes some suggestions for advanced studies. The conclusions are as followed: (1) The learning motivations of folk artists mainly came from family factors, other reasons including improving life qualities, talents and personal hobbies. (2) The legacy “glove puppet”, which came from folk artists could enhance modern people to realize the revolution of glove puppet and continue to extend native culture, enhance the emotional bond between generations and promote positive conduct. (3) The teaching beliefs include: teacher’s role, the difference between individual student and the interaction between teachers and students. To learners, it is important to build up the internal culture value and external vernacular art value. To participations, exchanging theories and interactive are our main purpose. To deepen the significance of life and self-affirmation, devoting whole life to vernacular art is a positive way to create the value of life. According to the research conclusion, the researcher provides some suggestions for future studies.
