A study on Stress Encounters of teachers with Off-campus Pressure Groups and their Coping Strategies ABSTRACT With the abrupt economic and political change as well as the effect of the Network openness in Taiwan, the campus environment has been no longer ivory-towered. In addition to carrying out reforms of the education system and teaching methods, school teachers make more and more efforts to deal with off-campus pressure groups such as the media, local representatives, parents and the community. This impacts the original value of respecting teachers and doubts how appropriate the role of educators is supposed to be, which brings about a series of problems to educational settings. Thus, this study focuses on how school teachers handle stress encounters with off-campus pressure groups. It is a top priority for every educator to maintain harmony and stability on campus by striking a balance between educational principles and legal actions. In order to achieve goals, off-campus pressure groups tend to exploit the right to speak or the power when getting involved in a certain issue of education, causing stress on school teachers. It is seriously argued that the stress from these groups helps or hinders the progress in education. Solutions to the issue are impossible to seek if the attention is paid to the individuals of an off-campus pressure group instead of the problem itself. This study, being a project of qualitative research, investigates the cases, in which six chosen participants are interviewed. It targets the junior high school teachers with over twenty years of teaching experience in Chiayi City and County who also have experience of being a school administrator such as a principal, a director, or a leader. The findings of the study are addressed as follows: 1. The educational philosophy and values of teachers under pressure. 2. The importance of communication skills for teachers. 3. The complication of educational problems due to diverse pressure groups. 4. Adjustments for the current education policy are made frequently, which results in gaps of communication between schools and parents. The government needs to listen more to teachers, parents and other related groups. Key words : Stress, Pressure Group,Communication,Campus 許華孚 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 105 zh-TW
