Grieg’ s Lyric Pieces for the Piano is like a musical diary in his life, combining the style of western classical music and the style of his own country. This essay focuses on the research of Lyric Pieces for the Piano. By studying of the Norwegian history and looking into the Norwegian music, the author learns more about the Norwegian style of music and how Grieg uses the Norwegian musical elements. Hope this paper is helpful in playing and understanding Grieg’ s Lyric Pieces for the Piano. There are seven chapters in this essay. Chapter one, preface, includes the research incentives, aims, areas and method of research methodology. Chapter two discusses the Norwegian music, Norwegian music history and Norwegian folk elements. Chapter three is about Grieg’s biography and musical character. Chapter four is the background and the musical style of Lyric Pieces for the Piano. Chapter five is the analysis of for the Piano (including the Norwegian Dance and Folk elements). Chapter six is the interpretation of Lyric Pieces for the Piano and chapter seven is the Conclusion.
