Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 音樂學系 === 104 === Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, which was completed in 1867, is an extraordinary work of Richard Wagner’s music dramas, and it is also the only comic music drama among Wagner’s numerous compositions using folk elements. Therefore, it plays a very important role in Western Music History, and the overture is considered as one of the most popular works these days. This thesis will begin with Wagner’s biography and the background of this work, then focus on the musical analysis and the conducting interpretation. The thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter describes the purpose, motivation and methods of the research. The second chapter is the discussion about Wagner’s biography and features of his works. And the third chapter is about the background exploration and the screenplay of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Then, the fourth and fifth chapters will emphasize on musical analysis and conducting interpretation of the overture of “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”, especially on Wagner’s compositional techniques and how he uses leitmotifs. At last, the sixth chapter is the conclusion and summary of previous chapters.
