Description
Summary:碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 應用心理學系碩士班 === 104 === Past research on the perception of parenting methods among male and female students have produced inconsistent results. In Taiwan, there has been little research on the perception of parenting among male and female university students and their perception of parent-child relationships. Therefore, this research will be based on dividing male and female university students to explore their perception of paternal, maternal parenting and parent-child relationship, in addition to the connection between parenting methods and parent-child relationships. This research collected data through anonymous self-reporting questionnaire and research tools such as parenting style scale, parent-child relationship scale, and background variables. The data includes 385 valid questionnaires, a result of excluding invalid questionnaires among 400 university students throughout the Hsinchu area. The discoveries of this research are as follows:First, paternal parenting mostly involves neglect, the next being enlightened authority, autocracy, while least fathers adopt the indulgence method. Second, there are no significant differences between male and female students when it comes to perceiving the demands and responses of paternal and maternal parenting. Third, on the perception of parent-child relationships among male and female students, male students have a greater tendency to form attachments with fathers, while female students are more likely to bond with mothers. Fourth, regarding the perception of parent-child relationships among male and female students, female students are more likely to be less confident than male student when parenting involves more restrictions. Fifth, there are no significant differences between male and female students on confidence, negative emotions, admiration and attentiveness when it comes to paternal and maternal parent-child relationship. Sixth, male and female perceptions of paternal and maternal parenting and parent-child relationship display significant correlation. The main contribution of the research lies in establishing the connection between the perception of parenting methods and parent-child relationships among male and female students, and whether there are differences between the two sexes. The results of this study can be a reference for future research on parenting methods or issues relating to parent-child relationships. The limitation of this research lies in the fact that the research samples are restricted to universities within the Hsinchu area. Last but not least, this study proposes recommendations on actual applications and future research directions based on the results of this study.
