For non-profit organizations, volunteers are the most important, most valuable human resource. How non-profit organizations recruit volunteers that satisfy their needs, and how they keep the volunteers and lead them to develop sense of commitment and identity to the organization, are the major objectives of the present study.
Qualitative research is adopted in the present study, using semi-structured outline to perform interview. The critical sampling design of purposive sampling method is employed here as the major analysis method. A total of 12 volunteer coordinators and senior volunteers were interviewed. Data-collecting was completed via methods including one-on-one and face-to-face in-depth interview.
The main objective of the present study is to discuss, from the volunteer coordinators and senior volunteers’ point of view, what strategies satisfy the volunteers’ sense of commitment and identity to the organization when they participate in the volunteering activities and the reasons why volunteers, as individuals, have the sense of commitment and identity to the organization. And then, according to the strategies of the managing end and the motive of the volunteers, analyzing the data to reach the conclusion of what factors influence volunteers’ identification to the organization.
According to the result, during the development of Xinchu Promotion Point (the origin point), the volunteers had also developed an unique commitment and identity to the organization. Lastly, according to the result of the study, suggestions were conducted for the government, future volunteers, people with needs of health issues and foundations.
