In view of the need for talented people, this study discusses mid-level executive’s desires of promotion to build a framework and reference for SMEs on mid-level executive’s promotion. This research used semi-structured interview with six mid-level executives and came up with “six needs for promotion interest” (actualization, emotion, capability, function, system, safety), character, personality trait, career development and enterprise management status to explain the factors influencing promotion desire. Research outcome: 1. Personality trait and career development. (1) No direct link between personal trait and desire for promotion. (2) No direct link between career development and desire for promotion. (3) Emotional personality comes with higher degree of desire for promotion. (4) A majority of mid-level executives have prudent personality. (5) Managers with amiable personality values relationship with subordinates. 2. Actualization need Self-actualization of highest level; create positive energy and altruism. 3. Emotion need Emotional interaction with subordinates helps to promote goals and support of subordinates. Direct link between satisfaction of emotion need and desire for promotion. 4. Capability need Employee training or that before promotion encourages possibility of employee development and desire for promotion. 5. Function need Satisfaction of function need advances desire for promotion, which brings direct link with promotion desire. 6. System need Satisfaction of system need improves desire for promotion, which brings direct link with promotion desire. 7. Safety need (1) Salary should be fair as expectation and acknowledged by capability. (2) Direct link between safety need and promotion desire if married female employees are supported by organization and family. 8. SMEs management status (1) Senior staff and talented people in organization are resources for human resource arrangement. (2) Integral development should be under premise of overall benefits. Labor and management should set up communication channel to maintain long term cooperative relationship. (3) To build a complete and practical management system, enterprise should develop with stability and managers should constantly update new concepts. (4) To control division of family member’s power in family business, organization should foster people with good morality to be involved in decision center.
