Test samples for mechanical testing were prepared by injection molding. The polar flax fibers have low compatibility with non-polar polymer matrices such as PP. By this token, treatment of flax fibers is beneficial in order to promote interfacial adhesion. The surface modification of flax fibers was carried out using four different functional groups of silane coupling agents and the modified flax fibers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The morphology of the modified fibers was examined by scanning electron microscope. The result shows that the hydrolysis step of BRB276 and BRB258 is difficult to proceed unless adding acetic acid as catalyst. BRB919 is easy to proceed hydrolysis reaction without adding catalyst. The thermal stability of the composites was examined by thermogravimetric analysis. The thermal stability of the composites with BRB919 treated flax fibers is better than that of the others. This may be due to the flax fibers modified by BRB919 could improve the interfacial force between PP and flax fibers. According to the tensile test, adding flax fibers in PP could increase the tensile strength and Young’s modulus. However, the elongation of the composites was decreased compared to neat PP. The impact strength of the composites with silane treated fibers is better than those without silane treated fiber. WU,SHAO-JUNG 吳紹榮 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 71 zh-TW |
