Distinguish from the Western tradition of leadership methods, Chinese sports team coaching style allows different perspective between coaches and athletes. Research purposes:The purpose of the present study is to explore the relationship between paternalistic coaches and athletes’ attachment. The hypotheses are that coaches’ paternalistic leadership would be positively related and predicted to athletes’ attachment. Methods: survey is used in the present study. Participants are athletes from 7 high schools who were ranked as top 16 teams in the nation in 2014 High School Baseball Tournament. accounted for a total of 278 athletes who were involved in this study. During research, total of 278 copies of questionnaires were sent out, 278 copies were retrieved, with overall recovery ratio at 100%. (0 invalid questionnaire, 278 effective questionnaires, with effective questionnaire ratio at 100%.) All collected data were analyzed using statistical analyzing software package SPSS version 20.0 for Windows. Results: Study found that the hypotheses set in objective are mostly supported. Athletes are aware of the strong correlation between coaches and athletes’ relation under paternalistic leadership. Conclusion: Long-term interaction between coaches and athletes resulting strong dependency from athletes towards their coaches. Study shown paternalistic leadership is the antecedent influencing factor in this relation dependency. Athlete dependency is induced by their coaches’ morale, autocratic and benevolent leadership behavior. Keywords: paternalistic leadership, attachment, correlation, prediction
