Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 電子物理系所 === 104 === Based on the analogy beteen the Schrodinger and Helmholtz equations, billiards model can be used to explain classical periodic orbits, path-length spectrums in many different boundary shapes of VCSELs. However, there are still two problems that we need to deal with. First problem occurs as the transverse size of cavity shrinks, the deviation between experimental path-length spectrums and lengths of classical periodic-orbits increases. We have utilized dielectric square waveguide model, enabling us to explore the finite confinement on the mesoscopic phenomena of finite-potential quantum billiards. Second, although billiards model allows us to reconstruct high-order geometric patterns in VCSELs successfully, but this model does not give physical explanations to these special high-order modes. In this thesis, we will utilize two different models to reconstruct and explain the origin of geometric modes in broad-area square VCSELs.
