The Exploration of Difference of the Medical Staff on A Multi-Year Research on Patient Safety Culture – A Case Study of Using the Data of the Year 2011-2014 from a Teaching Hospital in Taiwan

碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 企業管理學系 === 104 === This research is divided into three parts. The first part is to observe the performance of the patient safety culture from all of the members from year to year. The second part is to first examine the performance from physicians and nurses in 2014 and then to make a comparison of the performance from 2011 to 2014. The third part is to discuss the performance from all of the members through six domensions form year to year. The research uses the safety attitudes questionnaire developed by Sexton et al. (2006) with six dimensions and 30 questions as the questionnaire and not all of the members have to answer these thirty questions. The research uses all the members in a regional hospital in central Taiwan as the research samples. The members’ positions have seven categories, including physicians, nurses, technicians, pharmacists, medical administrators, respiratory therapists, and others. The first and second parts of the reaserch use multivariate analysis of variance for the research method. Different methods for post-hoc analysis are applied based on the options of demographic variables. Independent sample t-test is used when there are two options, while Bonferroni method is chosen when there are more than two options. The third part of the research uses analysis of variance for the research method The research results show that there is no significant difference on the patient safety culture from year to year for physicians, technicians, pharmacists, medical administrators, and others. Respiratory therapists with less than the sample of size of thirty are not taken into consideration for analyses. Nurses perceive differently. Nurses who are in charge of supervisors/managers have better perception on the patient safety culture. Nurses’ experience in organization and experience in position are not the significant variables in 2011 and 2012. However, nurses with less than 6 months and more than 20 years in experience perceive significantly higher satisfaction than others. For the second part of the results, nurses have better perceptions than physicians in 2014. In addition, nurses who are supervisors/managers have significantly higher satisfaction from 2011 to 2013.
