A questionnaire was employed and participants were 373 students in the upper elementary grades. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, cluster analysis, the Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Research findings were presented as follows: (1) Students were interested in reading “comics”, “jokes”, and “novels.” books. Participants are most interested in reading “adventures”, “Sci-Fi”, and “entertainment” books. (2) Students’ reading preferences varied across the six reader groups known as the comprehensive reader group, the takeout’s reader group, the comprehensive adventure reader group, the takeout’s adventure reader group, the comprehensive sports entertainment reader group, and the takeout’s sports entertainment reader group. Among them, the most participants were found in the comprehensive adventure reader group while the least participants were found in the takeout’s adventure reader group. (3) Students’ imaginations were in the upper middle level. (4) There were partially significant differences in students’ reading interests according to their gender and grades. (5) There was significant difference in students’ imagination by grades. (6) There was partially significant difference in students’ imagination in different reading preferences. (7) There was a significantly positive correlation between students’ reading interest and their imagination. (8) Reading preference of “comprehensive adventure reader group” can positive predict students’ imaginations. Based on the findings of the study, some suggestions were proposed for the researchers, elementary school’s students, teachers, and schools and implications for future research were considered.
