From these collected oral texts, many folktales are similar to the stories spreading in Japan. We also found some oral texts are related to both Chinese and Japanese folk stories such as Hanasaka Jiisan and Urashima Taro. Because the folktales circulated in Taiwan are hand down by our ancestors, the dissemination is classified by the immigration of elder generation. However, Taiwan was ruled by Japan for 50 years (from 1895 to 1945). During that period, the fairy tales circulated in Japan probable disseminate to Taiwan by applying colonial education. This issue is worth to be concerned. By investigating the studies of National Language (i.e. Japanese;kokugo) education in Japanese colonial period and Taiwan folk literature, the teaching materials of story types collected by National Language are considered the tool of Japanese colonial government to train Taiwan students to have the national spirit. Although some researchers of Taiwan’s folk literature have proclaim that Taiwan’s folk literature is related to Japanese colonial education, deeper and more detail research cannot be found. The propagation path of stories implemented in the mind of students in Japanese colonial period is significance at that time. The most likely way is through the popularity of colonial education and teaching by Japan teachers. This thesis will use the point of folk literature to illustrate the relation between Japanese National Language education and Japanese folktales circulated in Taiwan. By studying the educational background of the folk tellers, the current plots of Japanese folktale and the variations of those folktales will be classified. Through the memory of the students ruled by Japan, the propagating route of folktales will be built.
