Hope this research will enable the teachers to improve professional development. The participants in this study were 177 first grade students in 5 classes at one senior high school in Qianzhen District Kaohsiung City who have studied Permutation-Combination Unit. The method of this study was to give a self-made Permutation-Combination Unit test to 33 first grade students as pretest and make official test according to pretest results. Then, selected students whose answers were representative to hold a personal interview hoping to realize their ideas so that we can analyze the error causes of students. The results are as the following: 1. The error types: (1) Being not comprehensive at listing numbers. (2) Making mistakes when they calculate the symbol of Permutation-Combination. (3) Being inexperienced in using Principle of Inclusion and Exclusion. (4) Misunderstanding the meaning of title and then using the wrong mathematical model. (5) Using mathematical model to solve problems but improper handling of details . (6) Going wrong with the data in problems. (7) Calculation error. 2. The error causes: (1) Answering without comprehensive thinking. (2) Being inexperienced in using mathematical model. (3) Bad ability of dealing with multiple sets problems. (4) Bad ability of transforming questions into equations. (5) Feeling confuse about using Addition Principle and Multiplication Principle or solving problems with reciting formulas or questions.
