Many references indicated that the reason for the allergen-induced immune and inflammatory response, resulting in frequent dog scratching, rash and other symptoms. Though the diseases will not endanger the life of dogs, it causes repeatedly and constantly symptoms like scratching and rashes which will constantly influence the life quality for owners and pets. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Chinese medicine and probiotics on immune reaction of AD and skin. This study was divided to two parts. First part, BALB/c mice were fed with 0.1%, 0.5% Chinese medicine, 0.1% probiotics or 0.1%, 0.5% Chinese medicine and 0.1% probiotics , and induced by ovalbumin(OVA). The results revealed that body weights were decreased after the OVA-induction. There were no significant differences between the control and the other treatments. Cytokines in induced mice showed the expression of tumor necrosis factor -α (TNF-α)were significantly reduced (P < 0.05), Th1 cells cytokine interleukin-12 (IL-12) was significantly increased (P < 0.05), significantly reducing Th2 cell cytokine interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin 5 (IL-5) and OVA-specific IgE production (P < 0.05). There were no significant difference between all treatments. Second part, effect of Chinese medicine and probiotics on blood traits and skin of the atopic dermatitis using canine model. Four treatments were control, 0.5% Chinese medicine (Herb), 0.1% probiotics (Probiotic) and 0.5% herb + 0.1% probiotics (Herb + Probiotic),respectively. The trial last for 8 weeks. Blood samples were collected for further analysis and clinical signs were scored by canine atopic dermatitis extent and severity index (CADESI). The results revealed that the treatment of Chinese medicine and probiotics for dogs blood IgE, eosinophil, IL-4, IL-5, serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate turn aminotransferase (AST), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine were no significant difference with control, but in the inhaled allergen specific IgE only found increased in control group and were reduced in the other treatments. In CADESI scores, Chinese medicine treatment decreased 49.5%; probiotics treatment decreased 24.5%; Chinese medicine and probiotics treatment decreased 56.6%, all treatments had different degrees of improvement in the surface appearance. In conclusion, Chinese medicine and probiotics can decrease the allergic reaction from OVA induction in mice, and also improved appearance of atopic dermatitis in canine.
