The Effect of Auricular Acupressure with Education for Smoking Cessation in Patients with CHD

博士 === 國立臺北護理健康大學 === 護理研究所 === 104 === The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of auricular acupressure with education for smoking cessation in inpatients with CHD. This was a randomized controlled trial, using block randomization, stratified by disease diagnosis (AMI: PCI: stable angina= 1:1:1). 180 CHD inpatient smokers were recruited from a medical center, and divided into three groups. Group1(n=60) receive smoking cessation education for 4 weeks, Group2 (n=60) received auricular acupressure combined with smoking cessation education for 4 weeks, and Control (n=60) received usual care. Data were collected at baseline, 1-month, 3- month, and 6-month after interventions. The effects of quitting were measured saliva cotinine, exhaled CO, nicotine addition, cigarette refusal self-efficacy, and tobacco-hazard knowledge. Statistical analyses used the SPSS version 20.0. Descriptive statistics were calculated for basic characteristics. One-way ANOVA and Chi-square test were identically distributed to homogeneity of demographic characteristics. GEE examined the repeated data. After changing over time between groups, this study found immediate effects in Group1and Group2 of saliva cotinine, and Group2 of cigarette refusal self-efficacy; 3-month follow-up effects in Group2 of saliva cotinine, nicotine addition and cigarette refusal self-efficacy; 6-month follow-up effects in Group1and Group2 of saliva cotinine, nicotine addition, and cigarette refusal self-efficacy; no effects in exhaled CO, HRV and tobacco-hazard knowledge. In conclusion, auricular acupressure with education in quitting had an immediate effect or gained effects early than education alone, and it could maintain effects to 6-month follow-up after yielding. Future studies might implement auricular acupressure with education for smoking cessation in different diseases and examine the effects.
