T he purposes of this study are as follows. First, to analyze the early dance learning environment and the pursuit of schooling of the case. Second, to examine the teaching beliefs and the outline of the professional development of the case serving as a dance educator. Third, to explore the de velopment and the future prospects of Resident Island Dance Theater. This study uses narrative inquiry as the research method, collects data through in-depth interviews and participant observation and discovers the influences of crucial incidents on the career development of the case as a dancer instructor when these crucial incidents are used as the approaches to construct the life story of the dance instructor. The findings of this study are as follows. First, significant others can have far-reaching influences on learning. Besides, family is the initial breeding ground for one to accumulate cultural capital. Second, personal willpower can break the so cial reproduction theory. The dance teacher capitalized on his social network and resources in local areas to create professional performances. Third, the dance teacher increased the environmental resources in Pingtung county by establishing a local dance company and removed the stereotypical concept that dance instructors must receive formal dance training. Even though the dance teacher is environmentally disadvantaged, he creates his self -worth through personal agency. Last, the researcher also proposed relative suggestions based on the conclusions in an attempt to provide future dance instructors and dancers with a source of reference when considering their future career development or job options.
