Twenty-four 3rd grade students from the researcher’s elementary school underwent a ten-week twenty-five classes as a part of regularly scheduled activities. The study was conducted as an action research project by using the researcher’s self-compiled “gratitude evaluation” charts, the assessment before and after teaching, the collections from the class observation, students’ documents, and interviews to further analyze overall information. The conclusions are as follows: The program of “Gratitude and Caring “ combines with the ethics of care proves to be valuable and produces lasting effect. The problems faced during the process regarding the poor factors from the dialogues, insufficient teaching time, and without full confirmation are otherwise corrected and improved through revision and self-adjustment. It actually benefits the students’ awareness in a general attitude of thankfulness and appreciation. From the program design perspectives, the researcher also recognizes the positive results from the interactions between the teacher and the parents through the process of soul searching. The suggestions to teachers include: The program of gratitude can be implemented by effectively combine the teaching strategies in character education program, family education program and environmental education program as references. It should also emphasize the values on gratitude from the adversity to empower and prepare the students to face and cope the challenges in any situation. The program design should focus on a multitude learning of life education to facilitate recognition, affection, empowerment and willingness. The potential benefits for the students working together in corporation and service learning suggest that the gratitude intervention program really works. Therefore, it’s ultimately important to develop and build an altruistic culture in our daily life and it should become an integral part of the classroom management.
