By now, platinum (Pt) based catalyst of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is one of the best materials. Unfortunately, the high price limits its application. Therefore, to reduce the utilization of Pt and maintain its catalytic performance is of importance. First part, we fabricate the as-prepared MoS2 suspension via imidazole-assisted exfoliation together with single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and Pt nanoparticles (PtNPs) to form MoS2/PtNPs/SWCNT composite films and used it for hydrogen generation. The MoS2/PtNPs/SWCNT hybrid catalyst exhibited excellent HER activity with the onset potential of -30 mV, the Tafel slope of 39.6 mV/decade, and long-term operational stability (60 hrs. at -0.16 V vs. RHE). The catalytic performance of the MoS2/PtNPs/SWCNT exceed almost all the reported MoS2 related materials and enable the potential for deciphering it as a realistic HER electrode. Second part, we fabricate MoS2 quantum dots (MoS2 QDs) by using hydrothermal method. The MoS2 QDs exhibited superior HER activity with onset potential of -266 mV, Tafel slope of 75 mV/decade, and long-term operational stability (5000 s at -0.3 V vs. RHE).
