Patent analysis can also assist companies to gain maximum benefit from their investment. In view of advanced driver assistance systems(ADAS) became a popular development program nowadays. This thesis is about patent analysis of GPS in ADAS. The patents of GPS in ADAS in this thesis are from USPTO, JPO, EPO, SIPO and WIPO. After collecting and categorizing the patents, statistical charts turn out be a tool of patent analysis, such as the analysis of application trend, granted trend, the main applicant, the main patentee and the activities of main activists in the patent field of GPS in ADAS. Further, this thesis focus on Japan and The United States, in which countries have more competitive patent activities. After looking up the patent classification and reading the patents, the development road map be drawn to observe the technology development. Last but not the least, this thesis picks top three applicants to analyze their development of technology. Analysis results are summarized as follows: (1) The technology of GPS in ADAS is in the mature state. Japan and The United States are the leading countries in this field. (2) The most developed technology in Japan is the detection or estimation of the status around vehicle which is related to the control of driving device or vehicle motors. Top three applicants are Toyota, Nissan and Denso. (3) The most developed technology in The United States is data processing which includes vehicles, navigation and relative location, especially for vehicle control, guidance operation or indication. Top three applicants are Toyota, Ford and GM. (4) Toyota is the top leader all over the world, it is now on its way to its final goal ---- the ADAS which combines artificial intelligence and every kinds of control technics.
