Based on dance therapy as an intervention in combination with the concept of mindfulness, it examined the effectiveness of dance therapy for mindfulness and mental health, thereby shedding light on changes in the levels of mindfulness and mental health among the participants. This study was a case study designed with a pretest/posttest experiment, which was conducted as an intervention on one group of 15 participating members for a period of six weeks and complemented by qualitative interviews. The qualitative data first underwent analysis based on the pretest and posttest scores on the Chinese version of the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) and the Adult Mental Health Scale (AMHS), followed by qualitative analysis based on the records of the six-week experiment on and interviews with the participants. The findings of this qualitative study reveal that the group therapy program using mindfulness-based dance therapy can improve the levels of mindfulness and mental health in the participants, including improvements of anxiety and agitation, social problems, positivity and optimism in the participants. They further disclose that the program affects the participants in three aspects, including changes in psychology, physiology and social interactions among these individuals. Finally, suggestions are made on possible improvements of the study design for further research as well as on the design of actual programs for organizations that promote dance therapy.
