Description
Summary:碩士 === 國防大學政治作戰學院 === 政治研究所 === 104 === "Islamic State" (IS) rapidly rose in 2014 by occupying key cities in Syria and Iraq and killing Western hostages and innocent local peoples, while it takes advantage of the power vacuum in Iraq as a result of Maliki's failed regime and other issues. Then, it announced the resumption of the system of the Caliphate, and attempted the revival of the country of the Caliphate, which wasestablished from AD 632 and spread across Europe, Asia and Africa. This country held the Middle East as the center, creating the Islamic Glory for nearly 1,300 years. However, due to some factors, for example, the geopolitical position and the strategic resources in the Middle East, "Ancient Islamic State" eventually disappeared, until the latest "Islamic State" announced to "set up the country," and attempted the revival of the tradition and glory in the "period of Ancient Islamic State." So far, Islamic State has made a significant impact on the world with many activities, for example, occupying territories, terrorist attacks, oil smuggling, persecution of local people, vandalism, and use of the network, which worsens the existent refugee problem in the Middle East, causing it to spread to the Europe. This paper, based on the claim of "Islamic State" about the relationship with "Ancient Islamic State", tries to explore the rise of Islamic State through classical geopolitics, then according to their various activities, attempts to analyze the geopolitical influence of Islamic State by neoclassical geopolitics. This pathway may allow us to better explain the rise of "Islamic State", and the reason for actively expanding the power and nation-building from the angle of the analysis of classical geopolitics. Besides, in the wave of the revival of the geopolitical research, neoclassical geopolitics allows us to properly explain the reason for various activities of "Islamic State" and the geopolitical impact, due to the emphasis on "the concept of space". Finally, according to the analysis of the geopolitical theories, we propose suggestions to the international community as a reference to disposal or prevention of the threat of Islamic State.
