Description
Summary:碩士 === 南臺科技大學 === 資訊工程系 === 104 === With the increasing demands of social and mobile video streaming applications, limited band-width and error–prone channel conditions on wireless links resulting in the long video buffering time when users watching online videos. The mobile devices operating in 3G and LTE have high energy consumptions. Unstable wireless transmission and users' moving behaviors, results in intermittent disruptions while users watching online videos. How to shorten the user waiting time for watching online videos and reduce energy consumptions of mobile devices become an important issue in mobile computing. In this paper, we propose a social-aware energy-conserving video segment prefetching and caching strategy for heterogeneous mobile devices. In the proposed video segment prefetching and caching strategy, sharing video contents in social networks are classified according to the interests of individual user preferences. A content interest ratio (CIR) is defined and calculated for predicting what video content will have a higher interest to the user, and then the video content is prefetched and cached according to the calculated CIR value, current battery power, and current wireless link type, e.g., 3G, LTE, or WiFi. As a result, the proposed video segment prefetching and caching strategy can reduce transmission delay, while giving users a good quality of video services.
