Description
Summary:碩士 === 東海大學 === 社會學系 === 104 === This research question focused on the basis and reason to establish POYA school of Tunghai University. And the researcher tried to explore the impact of POYA on its students’ performance from 2008 to 2014. Through both in-depth interviews and questionnaires, the view points and experiences were collected from Tunghai University’s students, POYA students, and POYA instructors. The key findings are listed in the following: The establishment of POYA school was based on the fund of Tunghai’s alumni by reason that they hope to re-establish the past environment of teaching. During 2008 to 2014, the operating expenses all came from fund-raising, but not from Tunghai University. Furthermore, via the implementation of family system, family instructors became students’ learning model and were be closely linked with students. Futhermore, related courses help to build the leaders’ foresight, resilience, and high social care, which were the teaching objective of POYA school. Concerning the evaluation of POYA students’ performance, we found that student’s family economic status won’t affect them to join POYA or not. However, if father’s education level is higher, the possibility of his child being POYA student would be higher. To compare students’ performance between normal system and POYA system, there is no significant difference. However, half of POYA students’ academic ranking are in top 20 percent. On the one hand, not all teachers and students recognize POYA in Tunghai, on the other hand, there is still uncertainty about its position in Tunghai among school board of directors. This two key factors result in some misunderstanding from teachers and students. Under these findings, this research is expected to present a whole picture of POYA school for those curious or suspicious people, via integrating the establish process of POYA school, the evaluation of its students’ performance, and the response to outside suspicion from POYA school.
