Summary:碩士 === 淡江大學 === 法國語文學系碩士班 === 104 === In this study, we will investigate the phenomenon of code-switching between Chinese and French among the Taiwanese students in France. Our study will apply the theory of linguist Shana Poplack and John Joseph Gumperz to analyse the structure, function and the factor in their linguistic practices. By exploring the functions and the motivation of code-switching, we will be able to analyse how and why the phenomenon is present in Taiwanese student’s conversation. For collecting the corpus, two research methods have applied on the study: First is through the recorded conversations and second is interviews with questionnaire. Our study will analyze the types of code-switching which appear in the conversations of Taiwanese students. Furthermore, our study will find out the different functions and the factors of code-switching. The purpose of this study is to explain the reasons for the alternative use of two languages spoken by Taiwanese students.
