Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 應用藝術研究所 === 104 === This thesis centered on the conceptual development of my artworks at Graduate Studies of Applied Arts, Ceramics (2012-2016). The central theme investigates the in-betweens of my family & myself, while seeking to establish a link through my artworks. Due to my personal sexuality that conflict my family’s expectation towards myself, I developed a keen interest about the ideas of sexuality, desire & the body. Through researching & studying these topics of interests, I realized that my process involves not only my personal body/memories but also how such ideas could relate and interact with the social situation at present. As such, I hope that through the act of writing, I could clarify the development of my works in context. In the first chapter, I will write about my childhood memories, family background & the physical environment of that specific time. I will also write about feelings of regret towards my family and how it transpired into an inspiration for my works. The second chapter consists of my perspective towards “self”, “desires” & “privacy” that dictate the context of my works in the beginning. The first section will begin with discussing my sexuality in relation with my family, society & the body. In the second section I will develop on my personal sexuality & repression. In addition to that, I would like to add my overseas exchange experience in America and how working in a whole new different space affected my artistic development. The third section writes about the works that will be presented and how the exhibition will be centered on the idea of “Apart”, whilst discussing the importance of clay as my medium of choice. Through the act of facing the issues of sexuality with my family and exhibited works, I hope to gain new perspectives between my family and myself. The fourth section, concludes my present artistic development for my works, though from my works I am unable to truly bridge the distant between my family & myself, I would like to use the arts practice to find a balance and seek for a different or new “bridge”. Looking forwards to more possibilities in future practice.
