The effectiveness of cleaning, reduction, elimination, road dust size distribution and water quality were analyzed. A positive correlation was found between cleaning effect and the amount of road dusts and particles. A higher road dust loading before the cleaning process showed higher reduction efficiency. When the road dust loading was higher than 3g/m2, the reduction efficiency could reach 65.0%. If it was less than 2g/m2, the reduction efficiency would drop to 34.9%. As the loading of particles sized smaller than 75m lower than 0.5g/m2, the reduction efficiency would be reduced to 38.9%. Therefore, better reduction efficiency was found when the road dust loading more than 2g/m2 with the level of particle sized smaller than 75m higher than 0.5g/m2. To maintain the road quality, 0.3 to 3 days cleaning frequency was estimated in the Yunlin area. Street cleaning frequency suggested in order was access roads, highway junctions, urban roads, and industrial roads. The quality of water used for street washing was investigated, suspended solids or turbidity at some locations exhibited high values. In order to reduce the influence, the turbidity of water should be regarded before collection. In some cases, low levels of dissolved oxygen, high biological oxygen demand, high conductivity or sulfates did not reach irrigation water quality standards. It could result from manure or organic substance discharged by a near farm. Therefore, a regular water quality examination was recommended to avoid an unrequired environmental impact.
