Summary:碩士 === 臺北市立大學 === 學習與媒材設計學系課程與教學碩士學位班 === 104 === This study aimed to investigate the effects of Tabletop Games Instruction on English vocabulary ability of Sixth Graders. 52 sixth-graders from two classes participated in this quasi-experimental study in an elementary school in New Taipei City. The experimental group with 26 students received tabletop games word instruction; while the control groups with 26 students received traditional word instruction. The experiment lasted for eight weeks, with twice a week and once for 20 minutes. The study adopted qualitative and quantitative research method. Both of the groups took self-made vocabulary pretest, immediate posttest and delayed posttest for the abilities of letter recognition, phonetic activation, meaning understanding and spelling. After the experiment, a questionnaire was administered to the experimental group to understand their feedbacks and perceptions toward learning English vocabulary through the tabletop games. The results of this study were as follows: 1.Tabletop games instruction significantly influenced sixth graders’ English vocabulary ability. 2.Tabletop games instruction could effectively retain sixth graders’ English vocabulary ability. 3.The participants showed positive attitudes and their preference for learning English vocabulary from tabletop games. Finally, based on the reults of the study, some suggestions for English teachers and further studies were provided.
