Summary:碩士 === 國立陽明大學 === 護理學系 === 104 === Abstract ‘Pulingau’ is the witch of Paiwan, an aboriginal tribe of Taiwan. The aim of this research is to track the decline of pulingau and the viewpoints of Paiwan’s mental health. Fifteen persons, including medical professionals and local residents participated in the study. The researcher collected data through field observation with ethnography interview techniques. The snowball sampling was used to select interviewees. The finding of the qualitative content analysis reveals that the participants own the “illness” from Paiwan’s perspective. They regard the illness as a result of ‘kamalaw’ (業障、因果之意). The course of pulingau’s life history have had experience of fate, disobey, obedience and mission. At the same time, the pulingau is also a group needed to be cured, but their needs were suppressed and ignored. The pulingau undoing people’s anxiety and stress by the religious rites-Palisi. Finally, the declining development of Pulingau indicates that the traditional cultural medical care have encountered a challenge in the new era. Implementing holistic health care services, township public health center should integrate modern medicine and traditional culture.
