Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 視覺傳達設計系 === 104 === Tourism has become an important industry nowadays for national and local development. Local tourism-related agencies often make use of tour brochures to promote unique characteristics of their locations. These brochures allow tourists to gain a quick understanding of the local culture and information on tourist attractions, thereby giving them a good impression of the place. The Yancheng District in Kaohsiung used to be a prosperous area during the early Republic era, when there was a push for modernization and development of commercial districts. The district fell into decline in the 1970s, but the local streetscape of that time was retained. Later on, it gradually transformed to a cultural and creative district, and a new marker for the city of Kaohsiung.Presently, tour brochures for Yancheng are available upon request. However, these are generic and monotonous, and do not provide in-depth promotion of the district’s tourism activities or the value of its local culture. The research methodology to collate Yancheng’s existing local cultural elements included literature review, text-based research, and conducting participant observation and interviews during field surveys. Next, the focus group method was used to organize the existing tour brochures, analyze their positive and negative aspects and the information contained within, and examine whether the design principles meet the tourists’ needs. A design proposal was prepared and then tested using the questionnaire method. The feedback obtained was incorporated when preparing the final design. The outcome of this creative research was an applied project based on the concept of the Yancheng Tourism Center. The project encompassed overall planning for the center, planning and application of five tourism themes, as well as development of tour brochures based on the five facets identified as being able to help tourists know more about Yancheng. These are: activities to engage in, streets for visiting, crafts by artisans, fun with the creative arts, and culinary experiences. It is hoped that the creative outcomes of this tourism-related applied project will serve as future reference for the relevant cultural and historical organizations, public institutions, and shops when new tour brochures are being prepared. The latter will provide tourists with an in-depth understanding of Yancheng’s narrative, which will in turn drive local development and promote a new vision combining the district’s old and new industries.
