After the 921 earthquake, many schools were damaged, which forced scholars and professionals to deeply think about the necessary elements a good campus space should have and put forward new design concepts. It also urged the Ministry of Education to integrate opinions from all sides and came up with the idea of the New Campus Movement. Unlike the previous campus space that focused on the school administration, the New Campus Movement puts students’ needs in the first priority, which facilitates the implementation of humanistic education and promotes the teaching philosophy, such as open education, small class teaching, so on and so forth. The requirement for a more diversified and humanistic campus thus becomes the main concern for the construction of elementary schools and junior high schools. These new demands allow the post-earthquake construction to develop in multiple aspects. Schools that were built after the New Campus Movement are greatly different from the previous ones, since they have more innovative changes, with respect to the space layout, corridors, balconies and other developments. Classrooms then become the most frequently-used learning space for students. Based on this, the purpose of this study is to examine if the new space design of the regular classrooms meets the teachers and students’ needs. Three schools in the Tainan District, which are built after the New Campus Movement in 2000 and have different space design in classrooms, are selected as the case study. By analyzing their classrooms and having an interview with the administrators as well as teachers, we hope to evaluate the function and potential problems of the space design of the classrooms. Objectives are as follow: 1. Collecting and sorting the space layout of classrooms based on two elementary schools built after the New Campus Movement in the Tainan District and analyzing their design trends and features. 2. Exploring the design of different space layout of classrooms through surveys and interviews with the administrators and teachers in the elementary school. 3. Analyzing how classrooms’ design and layout influence people’s using behaviors. Keywords: New Schools Movement, the National Elementary School, Classrooms, Using Behavior. 曾思瑜 TZENG,SUZ-YU 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 199 zh-TW
