The hardware of the system included a personal cellphone, a network router, a pH meter, a water pump, a light board, Arduino Yún, Logitech Webcam C310, a submersible pump, a relay, and a compressor. The sensor uploaded the pH values to the cloud through Arduino Yún and the network router. The software included Arduino IDE and Appinventor 2. The former was responsible for Arduino Yún programming and retrieving the values collected by the sensor, and uploading retrieved values. Appinventor 2 was used to program the mobile app, used to display uploaded values. Plant boxes were used to divide the comparison area and the control area, aiming for an easy observation of plant growth and environmental differentiation. The remote sensing system is mainly composed of Arduino Yún control module, pH sensor, relays and pumping motors. As the pH sensor detects the pH value departs from the standard level (pH = 5.5 ~ 6.5), the system will start its control mechanism to balance the pH value by way of the sensing units.
