However, early childhood education in Taiwan is not part of the compulsory education, which leads to various problems. Prior studies revealed some issues related to the curriculum and teaching materials of kindergartens in Taiwan, including excessively intellectual orientation subject-based curriculum structure, excessive reliance on the textbooks in the market, and the negligence of local culture and individual difference in children. The implementation of “Early Childhood Education and Care Act” and “Curriculum Guidelines of Preschool Activities” in 2012, opened up a new chapter for early childhood education. Moreover, the promotion of kindergarten counseling programs, evaluation programs and other education policies drive preschool educators to improve their competencies in professional curriculum and teaching materials design, transforming from the passive receivers of available textbooks in the action researchers of self-designed teaching materials. The purpose of this study is to explore the cognition and the willingness of preschool educators in Taoyuan City to implement self-designed teaching materials.The study adopted questionnaire survey and drew conclusion on the high cognition and willingness of Taoyuan City preschool educators to implement self-designed teaching materials, and correlation between the cognition and willingness of implementation.
